When Mitch was four, leaving him at SCAMP felt terrifying—it was one of the first times I’d ever left my son. Today, I don’t think twice. That confidence comes from the incredible people and program at SCAMP.
Mitch has never come home saying he had a bad day. He loves SCAMP. It’s where he feels safe, included, and excited to try new things—from movies and spray parks to experiences we never imagined for him.
SCAMP gives our family peace of mind, time to recharge, and the joy of seeing Mitch come home happy and exhausted from a full day of fun. It’s also a community—one built on inclusion, generosity, and unwavering support.
We are endlessly grateful to everyone who makes SCAMP possible.

Clarkson SCAMP is one of the things that makes our town such a special place. Our son, Jacob has been attending since 2004. He begins counting down the days till SCAMP right after Christmas each year. Yep it’s that special! SCAMP gets him out into the community with peers instead of spending most of the summer in his room. If not for SCAMP, Jacob would have spent much of the past 20 summers in his room by himself instead of out with friends enjoying all a Michigan summer has to offer.
Raising kids with disabilities is no joke. It can be very difficult and isolating at times. Clarkston SCAMP not only provides support, community and fun for the scampers, but also a network of support for families and caregivers. It sets the tone for our community making it a special place to raise our kids.
— Becky R, SCAMP Mom
I can’t thank SCAMP enough for providing special needs children with summer fun and exciting activities, all while exercising in the fresh air. These experiences led to improved fine and gross motor skills, as well as speech and language skills. At the end of each day at SCAMP, Billy bounced off the bus tanned, happy, high-spirited, and tired!
— Maureen S.
My son Sam was diagnosed with autism when he was four years old. At that point in time, he was in speech therapy, occupational therapy and was attending a preschool for developmentally delayed children. Both of my nieces worked at SCAMP. They kept saying to me, “Aunt Barb you have to get Sam into SCAMP. He would have so much fun!” I enrolled him and he did. SCAMP is the silver lining to the very difficult task of raising a child with an IDD. I have met so many wonderful and generous people through SCAMP. I have talked to so many people, not just campers but volunteers, aides and teachers, whose life has been enriched by the SCAMP experience
— Barb R.
Thank you for an amazing first year! Artie loved coming and was so happy at the end of every day! Thank you for all the hard work and commitment to all of the scampers

This year was one of the best years for Katie. For our family it was the best as we felt so secure, that the staff and volunteers put safety first. We dropped her off and did not have any worries. I as a nurse, thought if anything were to happen to her, it would be an accident that could happen on our watch as well. I personally watched all the staff with many SCAMPers as I waited for Katie in the parking lot and was amazed at what I was seeing with the love and attention each SCAMPer was receiving. Also in the morning everyone was so welcoming. It was a great year and we cant wait till next year.

This was our first SCAMP experience and we couldn’t be happier. Our son who is resistant to most things absolutely loves coming and looks forward to it. We’re extremely happy!

We love SCAMP! This was our son’s 21st year attending. Missing only 2020 due to Covid. He absolutely loves it and looks forward to it each year. He begins counting down the days around Christmas time each year. SCAMP is pure joy and gives our kids a place to belong, we celebrated and create friendships! THANK YOU
